What Tadalafil Is
Tadalafil belongs to a class of medicines called PDE-5 inhibitors.
It works by increasing blood flow through relaxation of blood vessels.
What It’s Used For
✔ Erectile Dysfunction (ED)
Helps achieve and maintain an erection in response to sexual stimulation.
✔ Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH)
Can improve urinary symptoms such as weak stream or frequent urination.
✔ Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension (PAH)
At higher daily doses (usually 40 mg/day), tadalafil is used under specialist care to reduce blood pressure in the lungs.
⚡ How It Works
Tadalafil inhibits the phosphodiesterase-5 (PDE-5) enzyme, allowing nitric oxide to act longer. This leads to:
-
Relaxation of smooth muscle
-
Increased blood flow
⏱️ Onset & Duration
-
Onset: ~30–60 minutes
-
Duration: Up to 36 hours
This long duration is why tadalafil is sometimes called the “weekend pill”.
